The effect of not wearing a bra on your breasts

Straps that cut into your shoulders, or slide off, braces that pierce your skin. For some women, this is a daily annoyance. One finds a bra very comfortable, for the other it feels like a tightness. During home isolation, it has been a relief for some not to wear a bra every day. Research has shown that this has benefits for your body, it is even said to be good for you!

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, many people have started working from home. The French company IFOB launched an investigation into women who do not wear a bra while working from home last year after the outbreak of the virus. More than three thousand women took part in the poll and it shows that 7 percent of the women do not wear a bra. Before the outbreak, this was 3 percent.

The increase in the number of braless people is greatest among women between the ages of 18 and 25. Before the coronavirus broke out and everyone went into home isolation, 4 percent of women in that age group never wore a bra. Now it’s 18 percent. These women also leave the bra in the closet more often than average because of feminist motives. 32 percent of those who don’t wear a bra say they do so in protest against ‘the sexualization of female breasts’.

The French professor of the University of Franche-Comté, Jean-Denis Rouillon, conducted no less than fifteen years of research among 320 voluntary subjects aged 18 to 35 years. The subjects were regularly measured with and without a bra. As it turns out, you get a natural breast lift. Your nipples are lifted by more than seven millimeters when you no longer wear a bra! The cause: By wearing a bra, the natural group of supportive breast tissue is inhibited, making breasts less strong. Their advice: let it hang.

I have to say that this advice does not apply to all women and a bra also has practical reasons. The study was only carried out among some of the French women. French women generally have a small cup size. Some women with a larger cup size need a bra for support or back pain. For working from home, okay, but imagine having to run a bit on the way to work to catch the bus or train. Ouch, then a bra is definitely recommended.
